Our Story
Once upon a time, there was an ordinary world. The universe moved with predictable, mundane monotony. Galaxies swirled, stars traced their paths, planets spun lazily around their orbits, and days passed on a small rock called Earth.
The first human nations were taking form when it happened, the very first Blending. Creatures and monsters began to appear across the nations, sometimes in singular events, sometimes entire populations of otherworldly beings abruptly displaced into an increasingly chaotic situation. Inscrutable machines and items of power also fell into the world to devastating results as the panicked, warring cultures attempted to wield them, resulting in catastrophic destruction.
Over the centuries the manifestations slowed and the world adapted to its new inhabitants. The artifacts of power were locked away, safeguarded by those most adept in the weird energies that coursed through them. Though the world moved on and grew with thriving nations and industries, the events have begun to increase again. The progress of science allowed more predictability, but blendings are no less mysterious, bringing with them not only new beings, but sometimes new rules: most recently, magic.
At the turn of the century, just as electricity was being adopted, a violent blend that rocked the planet infused the earth with chunks of new, strange matter radiating energy like that of the ancient artifacts. While the craftsmanship of the original artifacts still eludes understanding, this new source was harnessed into the dominant form of energy. Electricity was also explored and developed into many of the common technologies, but magic excelled where electricity failed, and its ambiguous nature both nurtured and divided opinions on it.
Port Dominion, historically a city of trade and ambition, is set in the midst of this, hosting some of the most powerful corporations in magic manipulation, and guarding the world’s most coveted — and feared — artifacts. New creatures appearing is now a regular occurrence, to the point that governments have formalized their induction into society, though all are met with suspicion.
There are many stories left behind when an arrival comes to this world, because once they are brought by a blending, there is no going back. The only questions are where the pages of their new story carries them, and if their words will be written in ink, or in blood.
